will my old programs still be ther when i upgrade to Vista?

Yes, but they are not guaranteed to work and might require updates to become
functional again. if it is a game like NHL 06 for example if it doesnt work should I try to

You can try - however, try compatibility mode and see if that helps. Right
click on the .exe file, select Properties and click the Compatibility tab.
