There are a few troubles with the Search function - try the public beta (see
the windows.vista.general newsgroup) and see if this fixes anything. -- Zack Whittaker » ZackNET Enterprises: www.zacknet.co.uk » MSBlog on ResDev: www.msblog.org » Vista Knowledge Base: www.vistabase.co.uk » This mailing is provided "as is" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Maybe thats because the Root drive is not added to the Index. Click Start >
Control Panel > Indexing Options > Modify > check the root drive and click OK. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "James" <James@hot.com> wrote in message news:enpBOvkiGHA.4912@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Hello people, > > i'm currently testing the search function of Windows Vista ! > > but it appear strange or buggy ? :-( > > i explain: > > i go on computer then on c:\ and there i tape in the Search Field > > autoexec.bat > you can see that here -> http://www.numtek.com/te/vista_se_a.jpg > > in this first step there something allready strange the autoexec.bat seem > hidden, but when we go on him properties is NOT !! > > So i launch the Search and he find NOTHING !!! > > i have do the same search but with XP on that same drive > (networked-shared) and XP find it ;-) > > So what happen ? > > Thx a lot people..... > |

The root of my drive isn't set for indexing either, just the default users
and their subdirectories, but a search via the search box on the root of my C drive does find for example 'bootsect.bak' when I search for 'boot'. Explorer uses a combination of the search index and regular file enumeration searches in this case. I suspect certain system files are being excluded on purpose.
