Default FFXI Working Perfectly

ok i got FFXI to work with all the 3 expansions on my PC the other day
its a bit tricky since the only parts of the software not to be compatible
was the original cd install version ,

having an old install on another harddrive all about 9GB of is a must if u
plan to install it yourself too.

ok this is how I got it to work

1. install from a cd the playonline viewer only
1b. copy the playonline viewer directory only from old harddrive to the
vista one
1c. start it , it will start and will say corrupted version and will do a
file check to repair it, then it will be a working POL

2. install from cd all 3cd for game 1 - zilart, 2 CoP, and 1 Aht Aurgan DVD
2b. make a batch file to xcopy source dest /y /e/ d so it will be coping
only the newer files into vista saving some time
3. launch it and same corrupted version will appear , just let it check all
14000 files and everything going to be ok after that.

4. windower, and also FFassist are working too if u use those tools , just
checked and seemd that all it was the old cd install issue and update part,
if a new streamlined cd would be made a fresh install could be done, maybe
the dvd with entire game sold in stores now might be updated enough, I was
using the 2003 version CD's I have at home.

another thing is FFXI graphics seems to be much smoother on my PC now , and
no lag unless I use other things on my dual monitor system, also alt-tab
dont work even if u use windower, but who care I can finally test Vista as
my only machine until it comes out as final version.

Default RE: FFXI Working Perfectly

okay joe. I will try it out. I want to make sure I have this all right

1) Have a secondary drive and install FFXI on it.
2) Install Vista as normal.
3) Install POL disc, and then copy the POL directory from the old drive to
current?
4) Run it and get an error. Allow it to check the files then its setup?
5) Install FFXI Core (3 disc), RoTZ (1disc), CoP (2 disc), ToAU (1 DVD)
6) Copy files from old FFXI to new location? How do I make a batch file????
Can I copy all files over and still have it work?
7) Run POL and get an error about FFXI. Allow it to check and it will all
run perfect????

I just want make sure this is all correct before I go placing vista back on.
Also what video drivers did you use? The Beta or what is recommended by
playonline.com?

Sorry about all the additional threads... I did exactly what you said to do
and it works great now. Thanks for the information. You are right as well. I
think it handles better in vista... Qufim was alot smoother in vista... XP
it was choppy near the island edges where the water is spraying up.
