Well, it was answered in the newsgroup chat, because things going on between
the Hotmail and Outlook Express team support for Hotmail and Windows Live Mail accounts has been discontinued. ![]() -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta |

I've known it for a year. :-) The replacement for it, Windows Live Mail Desktop beta will support it, pop and imap accounts as well as RSS feeds and retain newsgroup support. http://spaces.msn.com/MoreThanMail shows a list of items it supports. |

This is what I don't understand... you've called Windows Live Mail Desktop a
"replacement" to Windows Mail. And this is a view shared by many. So, why doesn't Microsoft just ship Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta with Windows Vista, instead of Windows Mail? Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta would likely have a much larger user base (compared to Windows Mail) by the time Windows Vista is RTM. There needs to be a basic mail program that is installed with the OS.
I don't particularly want Hotmail or advertisements filling my computer up with trash. I don't use hotmail and don't like ads, so I wouldn't use the WLMD much at all. If you like ads, then you should love WLMD. Its NOT a replacement for Windows Mail or OE, its a separate mail entity that has much of the same functionality that will be in Vista Windows Mail. steve Durn insert bug is still there. Steve, have you forgotten MSN & Hotmail subscribers who are paying for
e-mail without ads? I am an MSN subscriber and I don't see any ads on my @msn.com or @hotmail.com accounts (and MSN Spaces is also ad-free for MSN subscribers). So, this has nothing to do with ads. Windows Vista's "basic mail program" could have had Hotmail support either installable/uninstallable as a Windows Component (via Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs) and HTTP/WebDAV functionality could be enabled/disabled by the Administrator/Group Policy. Microsoft releasing two e-mail programs (which sound confusingly similar) that are essentially doing the same thing is definitely a mistake in my opinion. Windows Mail is an email application specific to Windows Vista. Windows Live Mail is next-generation Hotmail (webpage access). Windows Live Mail Desktop is a downloadable Mail Client which will be usuable in WinXP, Win2K, Win2K03, and Vista. You might consider it OE7 downloadable. Yes, the names are /very/ confusing. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org |
