i have the same problem with my netgear rangemax (hardware version v1).
i'm loosing connection to the access point - sometimes after hours,
other times after just minutes. when doublechecking with netgear, i saw
that the device is not compatible with vista... probably the device
discovery from vista messes with the router.

once i'm loosing connection, the device can still be seen when searching
for wireless networks, but called "Unnamed Network" instead of my
network id. in this state, no device can reconnect to the wlan until i
turn the device off and on again.

have you tried linksys.com for a newer firmware for your 54g?
