Vista correctly recognizes the Dell Power Edge 1800 on-board two channel SATA controller. We need to add 4 additional SATA drives and are looking for a controller. We have a SIIG Serial ATA 4 Channel PCI controller that works fine with Windows 2003 Server (32 bit) running on the PowerEdge. There is not, however, a driver for Vista. Does anyone know of a 4 Channel SATA PCI controller that has a Vista driver ? Thank you. Robert Robinson |

Have you tried the Win2k3 driver? More likely than not the Vista-specific
drivers will be released by the hardware manufacturers in time for RTM, but in the meantime many XP/Win2k drivers can be used. The only thing you can *not* do for sure, is use 32-bit drivers with 64-bit Vista. -- Pierre Szwarc Paris, France PGP key ID 0x75B5779B ------------------------------------------------ Multitasking: Reading in the bathroom ! ------------------------------------------------ "Default User" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> a écrit dans le message de news: 388D0D15-7B9D-4118-A413-53565C1C7D39@microsoft.com... | | Vista correctly recognizes the Dell Power Edge 1800 on-board two channel | SATA controller. Hi Pierre,
Thank you for the follow-up. I know that sometimes the XP drivers do work with Vista. I haven't tried this with the SIIG as yet. Robbie |

It is possible to install the SIIG XP driver on Vista, but there is an error
message at the end of the install and the driver fails. It is possible to edit the SIIG 4 Channel SATA Controller install file
and to install their exisitng driver. The device is correctly identified, but the install fails at the end of the set-up. I did, however, find a way to install the driver that works. The driver can be installed when Vista is originally installed by pressing F6 at the first window. The driver is read from the SIIG CD-ROM, the hardware is correctly identified and there are no driver install errors. After the OS is installed and started, the SATA controller is operational and, at least based on limited testing, functions normally Robbie |
