Default Can't run windows update - error

Hi all,

Anyone else run into this one? New install of Vista Business (32 bit) - I
think the only things I've installed are drivers for my devices, Office '07,
and Firefox.

I've suddenly found I can't launch Windows Update, or some other windows
components. Specifically, the Live Update control panel does absolutely
nothing. I still get the alerts saying there are updates available (have it
set to prompt me first), but clicking on the notification gives me this error:
window title
::{21ec2020-3aea-1069-a2dd-08002b30309D}\::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81-ad49-0e313f0c35f8}
Window text:
This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.

Aside from the fact that there isn't a 'set associations' control panel ,
I've got no idea what type of file it's trying to open, so that I could try
to associate it with the right application.

Any ideas?

Default windows update - firewall

try turning off your firewalls during update. ive noticed sometimes firewalls can interfere with ms windows update.

include:

windows firewall
norton firewall
mcafee firewall
zonealarms firewall
sygate firewall

even your hardware firewall. dont forget to turn them back on, too.

Well, it doesn't seem like a firewall issue - as I said originally, I can't
even start windows update - it's not like it starts & then fails, it won't
even launch at all.
