I have the same problem.
I have done everything suggested on this page http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/o...=CH100788821033 but still no luck. The other odd thing is that it did work a couple of days ago. Ive not done
any setting changes to outllook or search and now it doesnt work. I also tried the advice in the webpage you mention. Looks like I will have to reinstall Google Desktop! I am glad it isn't just me having trouble with this. I think the problem is
with Outlook 2007's indexing. It just says the number of files remaining to be indexed when you check the status but this number just slowly goes up over time never down. The search in Outlook or Vista fails even for the word "and" when you look in emails. Google desktop works (I installed this too so I could search Outllook 2007) but it is a bit annoying to have to use Google for this. Although the old Outlook 2003/XP search was slow at least it worked. If anyone figures out how to fix this problem please add it to the discussion! Thanks Ed "Pat Robertson" wrote: > The other odd thing is that it did work a couple of days ago. Ive fixed it!
Its one of two things - I had installed powerpoint from an old version of office so maybe that had screwed up the new version of office? Anyway, i uninstalled powerpoint - still no joy. But noticed that the Outlook Today page had scripting errors when selected so i did a repair (under program install/uninstall option), then reset the index (control panel/indexing options) and once it had indexed the pc again, its now ok. Ive not had a chance to reinstall powerpoint to see if that breaks it again! P "Edward" wrote: > I am glad it isn't just me having trouble with this. I started with a clean Vista install and a clean Office 2007 install (I
didn't upgrade either) so I guess my problem is different. I have tried resetting the index. I found a link on Google that suggested using the Office diagnositcs to fix it but it just tells me everything is fine but the indexing still doesn't work. I am glad to hear that this can be fixed somehow, I will see if I can find any oher repair options. Otherwise I guess it is wait for a service pack and stick with Google for indexing my emails (very annoying though as this was one of the main reasons I bought Outlook/Vista). The old office powerpoint may just be a red herring of course and just a
coincidence. Try the repair option under control panel (classic)/Program and Features - select Microsoft Office, then select Change, and select Repair. Once its repaired, reset the search index (Control panel/Indexing options) to see if it works for you. Cheers and best of luck! The powerpoint issue is a known problem - if you install an Office 2003 app
*after* you install Outlook 2007 then some registry keys get overwritten which stop indexing from working. A repair on your Office 2007 installation should fix this. Edward, I'm not sure what is happening. It is worth taking a look in the Indexing Options Control Panel. There's an option on the Advanced pane called Restore Defaults that will completely reset search. This may be worth trying {requires a reboot}. Also do you have any search-related errors in the Event Log? The "restore defaults" option fixes the problem (nothing else does). However,
while doing this I discovered where the bug is that caused the trouble in the first place. It appears that when Vista does its initial index (of the default locations) it gets confused if you try and add a location (I store all my stuff in c:\data so I wanted to index this too) before the initial index has been built. You must wait for Vista to finish making the first index BEFORE you modify the index locations otherwise the indexing service breaks. When I tried to change the index locations after a reset it broke the indexing. When I reset it again but this time allowed the inital indexing to work, everything was fine. Hope this helps and thanks for all the suggestions.
