I have just received my copy of vista x 64 bit home premium. Is it worth
upgrading yet? Are there enough drivers for x 64 bit use? Do I do an upgrade install over my 32 bit version or a clean install? What is the best way to keep all of my current programs and file settings? |

Hi T5,
The big question is: Are there signed drivers available for all of your hardware devices? You will need these for it to work. Much may be natively supported by Vista, but the manufacturer is the best source of information and required drivers. Check here for additional information on whether a component is compatible: https://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/Default.aspx Is it worth it? Well, that depends. Do you have applications that can take advantage of 64-bit processing? More than 4GB of system memory? If so, then posssibly yes, otherwise your programs will run in a 32-bit mode that is no faster than the x86 version. Upgrade? No, it'll have to be a clean install. You can use the Easy Transfer and ET Companion to help in the migration: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&DisplayLang=en Opinion only: Make an image backup of your current system. Then go ahead and install x64 and see if you can get everything working the way you want it to. If so, great. Have at it and enjoy (I do). If not, restore the image, many bits and pieces of computing in the home are simply not ready for x64. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "T5" <noanswer@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:31BAEE72-A3A1-483C-9D12-1D0C2705A9F6@microsoft.com... >I have just received my copy of vista x 64 bit home premium. make note of your hardware! search for 64 bit drivers! if you can get what
you need install 64 bit! If not wait a while to get the drivers for your system. i downloaded and stored all 64 bit drivers on a second hard drive before i upgraded to 64 bit and i have had no troubles, a little prep can save you many hours of grief. good luck "T5" wrote: > I have just received my copy of vista x 64 bit home premium.
