Just to add to this, if there are no Vista-compatible drivers available yet, are there likely to be some reasonably soon? Or is it time to get a new scanner/printer? |

For the scanner you could look for a scanning software package with
TWAIN in it -- that is what works with my very old HP SJ5P scanner. For the printer HP seem to say it won't work and they are hoping to have a driver but ..... ? Have you tried it? Have you tried drivers for other printers that might be similar -- can one look in VISTA as one could in XP and earlier and select maker and model? |

Could you explain a bit more about this? I tried my old driver disc and it seemed to say it had worked OK, but when I search for the scanner on the start menu there is nothing that will work. I went into the programs menu on the control panel, could start from there, but was told it had not installed correctly - citing an inability to find a file with TWAIN_32 in it (specifically Cannot find file [C:\Windows\Twain_32\SlimU2\PmxScan.INF]). What do I do to get TWAIN and how to use it to get my scanner working? I don't seem to be able to uninstall the Slim USB2 Scanner either from there, as I get the same error message, (after doing the other stuff, I don't any longer get the 'found new hardware' message coming up when I start, though the scanner is plugged in) > > For the printer HP seem to say it won't work and they are hoping to > have a driver but ..... ? > > Have you tried it? > > Have you tried drivers for other printers that might be similar -- can > one look in VISTA as one could in XP and earlier and select maker and > model? > Could you explain more about this? Try a search here on TWAIN and you should find some messages of mine but they will be specific to my HP SJ5P scanner which is scsi connected -- your scanner is USB from what little I can find out? You can get TWAIN files from Adaptec here: http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/suppor...ASPI/ASPI-4.70/ Installation instructions are at: http://download.adaptec.com/pdfs/in...i470install.pdf I'd downoad and print that document and follow the XP instructions. I'd choose the XP version. ASPICHK is a useful utility that will check the versions of ASPI files since sometimes a manufacturer specific version may be needed and that may be your problem. What do you know about the scanner software you have tried? Is it recent? If not can you get an XP version and try that? I just had a look in my VISTA /windows/twain32 folder and there are two files there: hpds23.ds & wiatwain.ds I've not come across the .ds extension before but it's clear that the second one is a twain file and wia stands for Windows Image Acquizition which you will find under Services on the msconfig TAB for Services. You might try disabling that service and seeing if the scanner then works with TWAIN. I think I had to the first time this cropped up under Windows 2000. Here's a note on the .ds extension soit is TWAIN relataied: http://www.sharpened.net/helpcenter...xtension.php?ds What country are you located in by the way? Medion is not a name I recognize here in the USA although I see they have a US company. Have you searched their various sites for files -- I can't without knowing serial numbers it seems. I don't know if all that helps you or not -- I hope so. |
