Default Annoyances 2

I installed weather channel's desktop software. Under XP, when I boot it
comes up "normally". However, when I boot under Vista (I have a dual boot
system) it gets blocked; I'm allowed to run it "manually" through various
popups and tooltips.

What do I have to set to make this startup item "unblocked"?

Thanks!

Ross

Try WeatherPulse from http://www.tropicdesigns.net/weatherpulse.php

I have been using it for 2 years now and it is 100% Vista compatible.

Free for home users. No nasty side effects or add-ons.

My guess is (I do not use it) that it contains actual or suspected adware,
and MS Defender is blocking it. You might want to white-list it in Defender,
or not!

Yes it does work, however, it's not quite the same thing as I'm used to.
There should be an easy way to permit a program to run at startup time. How
do I indicate that a program is in fact safe to run?

use the weather gadget that comes with sidebar.
if you undock it from the side bar it provides a lot more information.

So I've investigated every aspect I can to determine how to permit a simple
startup program. There must be some way of turning off Microsoft's
"helpful" security for one given startup program - one that I've used for a
decade and know is safe.

I've tried playing with Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, and basically
every security setting I can find but to no avail. There must be some way.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

Ross

Did you find a solution to this? I'm trying to run "Speedfan" at start
up (monitors and regulates temps and fan speeds) but I'm facing this
problem with blocking too.
