Just upgraded to Vista from XP ... system running very slow. In task
manager I see SVCHOST using 86% of the system. Also something called ALI5289 - AliRAID Application is using 6%. I have two SATA drives which are mirrored. This all worked fine with XP for the last year. Been running like this for the last 4 hours. So something is wrong, right? Does MSFT offer install tech support? -Steve |

Go to this MS web site and download Process Explorer.
Install it on your Vista PC. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sy...ssExplorer.mspx You should be able to see what is running under svchost that is monopolizing your CPU. Svchost is a parent process for multiple other processes. I'm not aware of any A/V product that has services running under svchost. -- Alexander Suhovey |

Steve
In Task Manager, go to View/Select Columns. Place a check mark in the PID (Process Identifier) option. Note the PID of the svchost instance that is using all of the CPU power. Go to Start and type command in the Search Bar. Click Command Prompt in the results. Type tasklist /svc and press ENTER. (note the space in the command) This will show a list of all the processes that are running including the PID for each process. Locate the corresponding PID that is using the CPU power and you will be able to identify the culprit. Some instances of svchost will be hosting more than one process. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Steve Richter" <StephenRichter@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1170423333.461822.321460@p10g2000cwp.googlegroups.com... > Just upgraded to Vista from XP ... system running very slow.
