Does it start if you remove and then replace the flash drive? This will be
obvious in the file system of the drive when you insert it because
readyboost automatically benchmarks drives. Does it give you a "use this
device as readyboost" autoplay option when you insert the drive?

That proves nothing. This message can appear but ReadyBoost will not
function due to performance issues with the flashdrive.
