Default Backup Fails

Hi all,

I've successfully completed a “computer” or “image” backup of my notebook’s
C:-drive (60GB) to my external 200GB USB drive (E. However, when I try to
run a “Files and Folders” backup to the same drive it always fails with the
message:

“The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
(0x8007045D).”

The external drive can be accessed normally by Explorer and any other
program. I did not find any other messages addressing this issue (even though
the error code also appears often during Vista installation). Any ideas what
could be causing this?

In case that helps: my notebook is a HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC
Series dv1023ap, running Vista Business.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Lucien.

Default RE: Backup Fails

Hi,

had the same problem since installing Ultimate 3 days ago, spent most of
today getting frustrated but finally resolved it by trawling various sites
like this. Below is what I did to get it to work:

1. Schedule CHKDSK to run, mine took over 3 hrs
2. Turn off system protection on C: (this deletes all the shadow copies)
3. Turn it back on again and start the backup, it should work, it did for me.
