Has anyone had a problem installing avg antivirus free version on Vista RTM?
I looked for all types of fixes and work arounds but can't seem to get it to install! There seems to be a problem with the avg service starting during the installation. MS recommends a msv7.dll fix but that didn't work either. Grisoft's site says that it is compatible with Windows Vista. Go figure! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

I haven't had any troubles installing AVG Free on Vista RTM. I have UAC turned off in Vista though, and I never tried AVG with UAC on. Maybe this helps? Kind regards, Mark Veldhuis. |

Just as additional info AVG will no longer be free after January 15, 2007.

As far as I know, this is not true. What happens on January 15 is that there will no longer be updates for AVG Free version 7.1.
They would like you to buy their product, of course. But, they appear to plan to continue to provide AVG Free, now version 7.5 indefinitely. So, you can go to free.grisoft.com and download version 7.5 and continue to receive updates after January 15. To install version 7.5, you should either, first go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove version 7.1 and restart the computer before installing version 7.5, or, I believe, you can choose to do a "repair" installation when installing 7.5. 7.5 is, I believe, Vista-ready. (See, there is Vista content to this post.) I have no connection to Grisoft, the publisher of AVG antivirus and anti-spyware products, except as a satisfied user. Support for the old version stops, but there is a new free version instead. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup > "Frodo" <rizzocow123@comcast.net> wrote in message > news:%23yXZ$x2JHHA.3936@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Has anyone had a problem installing avg antivirus free version on > Vista RTM? > I looked for all types of fixes and work arounds but can't seem to > get it to > install!
