Starting 2 days ago, I can't get into Vista RC1 (or anything on my laptop).
When I turn it on, I click my user icon and then it hangs at the Welcome sign. (Doesn't make me feel very welcome!) Booting from the CD, I've done several system restores and the utility that fixes startup problems -- nothing helps. When I try safe mode, it asks me for my name and password but doesn't accept it. I'm 95% sure I know it, but I had set it to not require it, so I haven't used it for a few days. Anyone have any ideas? I haven't tried re-installing yet- that's next. I'm hoping I won't have to throw the new laptop away! Ellen |

Try restarting in safe mode, log into the account, open Control Panel >
Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > expand Windows Logs > click System. Check to see if there are any error messages relating to system startup and report back here. -- Andre Blog: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Vista Quickstart Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E8E5CC039D51E3DB!9709.entry "Ellen Finkelstein" <EllenFinkelstein@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:30481E44-4B90-4E46-B8E0-ED9F1370ACBE@microsoft.com... > Starting 2 days ago, I can't get into Vista RC1 (or anything on my > laptop). > When I turn it on, I click my user icon and then it hangs at the Welcome > sign. I am not aware of it working in safe mode, but I do recommend its use in
Real mode. -- Andre Blog: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Vista Quickstart Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E8E5CC039D51E3DB!9709.entry "MicroFox" <-> wrote in message news:uWZBYkIAHHA.4568@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > also dont forget to not use the the start menu only the search! lol.... > geshhhhh > > vista has it only for decoration to remind you of a functional sturdy fast > and well thought out XP! > > "Andre Da Costa[ActiveWin]" <andred25@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:%23brVhYIAHHA.1224@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >> Try restarting in safe mode, log into the account, open Control Panel > >> Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > expand Windows Logs > click System. >> Check to see if there are any error messages relating to system startup >> and report back here. >> -- >> Andre >> Blog: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com >> My Vista Quickstart Guide: >> http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E8E5CC039D51E3DB!9709.entry >> "Ellen Finkelstein" <EllenFinkelstein@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in >> message news:30481E44-4B90-4E46-B8E0-ED9F1370ACBE@microsoft.com... >>> Starting 2 days ago, I can't get into Vista RC1 (or anything on my >>> laptop). >>> When I turn it on, I click my user icon and then it hangs at the Welcome >>> sign.
