This is just a tip that might be helpful to some of you that use notebook
computers with NVidia cards. NVidia does not provide driver support for it Go series cards (for notebooks). Unless the OEM that sold you the notebook decides to release and updated version of the driver, you are out of luck... Or so I thought... The new Vista drivers that have been released recently will not install with my Geforce Go FX 5700 card. This is a big issue for me. Even though my notebook is quite fast, due to the poor driver that is supplied with Vista, I only get performance scores of 1.9 for Aero and 1.0 for 3D. This is quite bad... However, after some search in Google, I came across this site: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com (I am not associated in anyway with this site, and am promoting it exclusively because I found it to be very useful. I hope this is not against forum rules...) It provides modified .inf files that will allow the most recent drivers from NVidia to install in notebooks with Go cards. I just installed the 96.85 driver and my performance scores jumped to 3.6 and 3.0 respectively. The Aero interface is noticeably faster now, although I still have not experimented with 3D games yet. Excellent Renato!
Unfortunately, the link to the latest driver .inf file errors out. I will try tomorrow. Do you mind posting yours? Renato,
Great post! It worked and it fixed my flickering problem in Aero. Also, I noticed it is faster now. Thanx!!! I, too, have added the latest nVidia driver with the help of the modded .INF
file. However, it hasn't given me Aero. Should it? Is there something I have to do? I'm running a GeForce FX Go5700 w/128mb in my system. Is adding the v96.85 driver enough or is my card just not up to the task? David "Yoshi" wrote: > Renato, > > Great post! It worked and it fixed my flickering problem in Aero. David,
Try this link but for the CompositionPolicy, set the value to 0. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/co...b4-f44ed1a4fe83 Instead of going to Step 2, just reboot your OS. Hope this helps, Yosh "David Hankinson" <DavidHankinson@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:927DCBB5-0924-4208-B369-1BFC83D3E277@microsoft.com... > I, too, have added the latest nVidia driver with the help of the modded > .INF > file. Yoshi....
Thanks for your help. Managed to fumble my way through and got Aero working. A little knowledge and a lotta luck. Oh, but now there's more. I've got Aero working beautifully but I've
discovered that when it's activated, Windows Mail will only Receive mail, not Send it. Now there's a strange one. Anyone know if there's a fix for this?
