Vista auto switch to basic mode, way to disable?

You know when Vista auto switches from Aero to Basic when running 3D
applications. Is there any way to disable it from doing this on specific
programs? For example, on Winamp, when I want to run the MilkDrop
vizualization it has to quick switch to basic which stutters the music
sometimes. If it didn't have to switch it would run much smoother. I don't
think the Aero would effect it either. Any one know?
