Default boot hang problem

ok i installed 5342 32 bit on the following system
amd x-2 4400
2gb pc4000 memory
2x msi geforce 6800
asus a8n sli deluxe
2x WD raptor
2x seagate 250gb sata hdd

after install windows of windows on a clean 250gb hdd it tries to boot the
loading screen comes up with the progress bar for a few seconds then see the
windows vista blurb in the bottom right corner, a few seconds later a windows
symbol appears in the middle of the screen for a few seconds then nothing. it
sits there with the hdd light occasionally flashing. if i move the mouse the
mouse cursor shows up but that's it. i've been able to boot into safe mode
and safe mode with networking. just can't figure out what the problem is

It sounds like it hasn't installed properly... did the computer cut out
during install?
Try reburning the ISO image of Vista on a really low setting like 2x speed
and reinstalling )

actually it looks like a driver issue, this system does not like running with
a SLI setup, with the wddm drivers it boots fine but the graphics in games
look like crud. with the newest vista release drivers from nvidia i get
irq_not_less_or_equal error when trying to install them in regular mode and
if i install them in safe mode it won't get to the login screen
