Be sure to view Microsoft's Warning about Build 5728 at:
http://download.windowsvista.com:80...wnload-5728.htm and
then decide if Build 5728 is right for you.

I have upgraded 1 of my computers so far to build 5728. So far, no issues with the upgraded system. MS does recommend using the upgrade feature in this build to make sure it works well. I was very happy with the upgrade, just took about 1.2 hours to do the upgrade.

Where do you download the 5728 build? I can't find it with my MSDN subscription.

Can you? - Yes
Should you? - Up to you.

The purpose of using Beta software is testing.

I would upgrade and I did. I'm taking this computer to the final upgrade,
then it will have three years of life left. There will be at least one more
upgrade for the testers and 5728 isn't it. Keep everything up to date.
That's your drivers, patches, and builds.
