Is there a way I've overlooked where newly created shortcuts don't have
-Shortcut appended to their names? -- Michael Cecil http://home.comcast.net/~macecil/ http://home.comcast.net/~safehex/ |

I'm not on Vista where I'm at, but somewhere within the display options
there's something called 'personalize'. Next, look for 'display desktop icons'. Then, check which ones you want displayed (there are several - i.e. IE, Network, Computer, Documents, etc.). That's what I did to avoid using shortcuts. Hope this helps. I don't want to avoid using shortcuts, I want to prevent them from being named "some program - Shortcut" when you right click on a file and drag it to the desktop. In earlier versions of Windows, you'd get shortcuts named as "Shortcut to some program" but you could disable that with a regedit or TweakUI or even by just editing the name several times in a row (supposedly although I never got that to work.) -- Michael Cecil http://home.comcast.net/~macecil/ http://home.comcast.net/~safehex/ |

Hy
You can do it with the same way as under XP. By editing Registery. Start regedit Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/lnkfile Delete the IsShortcut registry value. But you have to know that this tweak will "disable" the favorites Links into Explorer. This one will stay empty even the folder "Favorite Links" contains shortcut. It appears that "Favorite Links" use the value "IsShortCut" to know if it have tu display or not the things... --------------------------------------------------------- Le_Poilu http://Le-poilu.whykywa.com --------------------------------------------------------- "Michael Cecil" <macecil@gmail.com> a écrit dans le message de news: etidnYx6BtgDKpfYnZ2dnUVZ_vudnZ2d@comcast.com... > On Fri, 15 Sep 2006 07:07:01 -0700, jim_from_il > <jimfromil@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > >>I'm not on Vista where I'm at, but somewhere within the display options >>there's something called 'personalize'. Thank you! It has been bugging me why my Favorite Links did not have any favorites. You are the first person I have seen post about this. Thank you! Makes sense now. Take care, Michael |

Oups you right! I make a mistake.
By the way for your question the answer is the same as under XP too. Edit this Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Link To : 00 00 00 00 After restarting Explorer process the mention "-shortcut" will desappear. -------------------- Le_Poilu http://Le-Poilu.whykywa.com ------------------- "Michael Cecil" <macecil@gmail.com> wrote in message news:HPGdnS2w_4Cvg5bYnZ2dnUVZ_vqdnZ2d@comcast.com... > On Fri, 15 Sep 2006 16:40:04 +0200, "Le_Poilu" <Le_Poilu@whykywa.com> > wrote: > >>Hy >>You can do it with the same way as under XP.
