What processor do you have? If you have a Athlon 64 or an Intel 64 bit CPU, you'd get better performance with the 64-Bit version. The weak side to that, is even less driver support than what is available right now, which is limited quite a bit. It is improving every day, though. Otherwise, use the 32 bit. You can use the 32 bit version on the 64 bit CPU's as well. -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Dustin Harper http://www.overclockersrip.net "Gene" <Gene@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F1E1D84B-72FA-48E5-A61A-44FBC759F228@microsoft.com... > > -- > Signed ME!!! |

It depends on your needs.
I would read this excellent white paper by Windows MVP Charlie Russel - Is Windows x64 right for me? http://download.microsoft.com/downl...ight_for_Me.doc Top things to take in consideration, all hardware device drivers must be 64-bit, so make things like your USB Based devices, printers, scanners 64 bit native to work. 16 bit applications do not work either, some applications utilize a 16 bit installer, so make sure your application is either full 32 bit or 64-bit. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "Gene" <Gene@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F1E1D84B-72FA-48E5-A61A-44FBC759F228@microsoft.com... > > -- > Signed ME!!! |

If you have a 64-bit capable machine and two available partitions, do both.
Otherwise, do x86. "Gene" <Gene@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F1E1D84B-72FA-48E5-A61A-44FBC759F228@microsoft.com... > > -- > Signed ME!!! |

Because you need all 64-bit drivers and such I'd suggest just sticking with 32 bits. The "x64" or "x86" or whatever are needed to address more than 4 gigabytes .. and they are fairly compatable with the older 32 bit stuff (re-compile required) I did note HUNDREDS of new IRQs under Vista, and once IA64 comes out then it is important to switch (IA 64 defines HUNDREDS of new registers that the various CPU-units can DIRECTLY OPERATE ON it is an exciting spec at least if you are into programming systems and low-level utilities) Also limitations on FAT or NTFS file sizes are not changed just how much RAM is directly addressable. That raises a good question: why will Windows put video, audio, and networking all on one IRQ? everything should have its own IRQ its better and faster this way.
