It could involve ACPI settings in the BIOS, looks for modes like S1, S2, S3.
I don't know know which is best for Vista to do its thing, but in earlier versions of Windows you had to pick the right one before installing the OS. Switching it after, much like The Goggles, does nothing (or at least nothing good).
