Look for memory modules. The most important thing to look for is a
significant number (2 or more) of identical looking chips with the same

Or just see what the maximum color depth it allows you to set at high
resolutions (don't actually try to set it if your monitor doesn't support
it)...if it allows you to set 1600x1200 to 24 or 32-bit color, it has 8
megabytes. (That is, assuming you have already looked for some kind of
hardware info page in the control panel (windows), or at the XFree86
startup log (linux), and not found your answer).

More memory will be vastly more useful on such a machine unless you need
3d capabilities (in which case, forget any meaningful improvement without
new motherboard, processor, video card, AND more memory). The video card
won't help you much unless you need support for higher resolutions than
your current card allows for, either due to memory or DAC limitations...as
far as 2d SPEED is concerned all modern accelerated graphics cards (and a
Rage II does count as modern) are basically equivalent.

Judging by their posts recorded in Google they may have just gotten a
new news reader that they don't know how to set to only get recent
posts.

That or they are a little slow responding.
We may know in a couple of years when they respond to these posts. ;-)
