Hi all,
I am trying to setup a print server. My print server is capable of doing all the required processing before giving the print job to printer. It has all the filter support. When i am trying to add the print server through "Add printer wizard" it is asking for drivers. Do the user need to know the type and make of the printer connected to print server. If the print server is capable of doing all the processing then can we send the file to be printed directly to the print server without processing at the user side. |

In general, I have fond its best to have servers as dumb as possible, so the machines that use it do all the clever stuff locally, and just send a raw stream to it. |

Even if the print server is capable of accepting all kinds of input, the computer still has to be told what kind of output to generate. Plain ASCII, PCL, or PostScript for example. Which is best to use depends on your situation. -- Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota * USA |
