Default USB cable to drive HP 693C Deskjet

I have an older working HP 693C that I was intending to give to my
daughter for college. However her laptop only has USB. I purchased a
Cables Unlimited USB to IEEE1284 Parallel cable. The package said it
would work with an HP 692C or an HP 695C, but didn't list 693C. I took
a chance, but it did not work. The printer would react a little, but
then would trigger the error light, and not print.

Does anyone know of a conversion cable that would have a greater chance
of working with the 693C?

Do not do your daughter a disservice with that slow outdated piece of
trash. You can get a new Canon IP4300 that is faster and better for a
few bucks more than the old carts.

Terry,

As the other poster mentioned, a newer printer would be the way to go.
That having been said, I have had good luck with Belkin in general,
and have used one of their cables with an old printer, though not the
one you mentioned:

CompUSA lists them, and they have a good return policy if it does not
work.
