Some HP Laser printers use Canon engines (about 90% of the printer), I don't know whether HP or Canon or another company assemble the engines into cases, add the formatter and badge the printer. This has been the case since day one for HP lasers. To the best of my knowledge HP make their own inkjet printers. Re-badging is common in this and many other industries. Lexmark for instance make Dell inkjet printers. Tony MS MVP Printing/Imaging |

Depends on what you are speaking about. Their inkjet printers are made
by them. Some of the laser printers were (and maybe still are) using Canon printer engines (as did other companies as well). I suspect the newer ones aren't Canon engines, but back in the good ol' days of the Laserjet 1 and 2 and such, they did indeed use Canon's internally. Having opened up my laserprinter/photocopier which states it is a Xerox
product, it interestingly has Sharp logos and names all over the inside. My RCA VCRs were made by Hitachi. Rebranding is an old tried and true method... it ultimately keeps costs dow, and if you know some of the inside info, you can often pick up a "name brand" product under a 3rd party label. Built like a battelship, weighing a ton, and apart from about 20USD 10UKPDS to fix the fuser opto-coupler/triac bit still going strong. OEM HP cartridges are cheap for these old workhorses on eBay. They don't make 'em like that nowdays. |
