Default Brother DCP-7010 - copying - sometimes very slowly

Hi,

We have bought Brother DCP 7010. In our company it is used mainly as a
printer. In my opinion it is very good device - fast, silent and works
under Linux (both printing and scanning).

However, we have problem with making copies. Somethimes, after pushing
copy-button device start make something (scanning), but stop after few
seconds (on the diplay is "COPYING") and the copy is printed after several
minutes. This behaviour is not regular.

Has anybody similar problems? Any solutions? I got an advice from Brother,
to send it to Brother customer service center (device is within warranty).
However, I would like to avoid such solution.

Best regards,
Kamil Frydryszek

Have you tried making copies without the computer attached to the device?

Some multifunction devices that I've seen will scan the image data to the
computer, which in turn must dump it back out again via the parallel or USB
port. This can cause the copy operation to take longer than it would if it
was done strictly within the device.

If the copying operation is still slow with the computer disconnected from
the device, service will probably be required. You might check your manual
and see about performing a full reset, but I have my doubts that this would
help.

William

Yes. Making copies when computer is turned off is possible. That's why in my
opinion copy function does not depend on computer. Even if computer is
turned on making copies does not cause any activity in LPD.
However, I think it is possible, that computer has some influence on this
device (i.e. copying).
I have change copying options - quality (from 'auto' to 'text'). I hope it
helps.
