Default Help! I get a Widows Defender "failed to initiate" window at start

My windows defender keeps failing to initiate at startup. Instead, I
received a small popup window that said that defender failed to start and I
should either restart my PC, (which I did, and it continues to fail to
initiate), or go to the help and search to start a program manually. I tried
that too, but I get the same popup window about failure to initiate. What
went wrong? How do I get windows Defender to initiate upon startup like it
was before? I can't even find out which version I am using because it won't
open.
Thanks!!

I also have a PC which is experiencing this issue, I've checked the local
services and when trying to start the Windows Defender service manually I get
a message saying:
Error 0x80071b90: The system license has expired. Your logon request is
denied.

Anyone have any ideas please?

OS= Windows XP Pro

The beta has expired. Windows 2000 is no longer supported. If you're running
XP you can download the release version here:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/sec...re/default.mspx

I'm also experiencing the same problem with Windows Defender, the error is
0x800106ba, I've tried to find a solution on Microsoft's website but found
none. It was fine yesterday and start acting up today, personally I think the
program had a time bomb installed and it just went off. Remember Microsoft
Antispyware beta 1 had a similar ending to it!

Had the same problem and it seems the licence agreement in the beta version
was set to expire on 12/31/2006 disabling windows defender starting at
start-up. Un-installed the beta version and downloaded the new version from
microsoft's website and every is working fine now.

Same error here.

Posts below say to remove (expired) beta and install updated WD.

But when I tried to download, I was asked to download and install the
Windows Validation program - which I DO NOT WANT TO DO.

ALL of my programs are honest programs so validation would NOT fail.

Because there are other issues with WV I don't want to install it.

Any work-around???

I have the same exact problem, Sinseh, and it began this morning, 31 Dec 06.

If you get any response/help, please post it so we can all "get the fix."

Thanks, Perry
