Default Service Executable

Recently Windows Defender has been playing up and I keep getting a message
when I start my computer up that there is an error and termination either
press ok to de-bug or cancel to do something else.

Then in Windows XP i get error messages saying about Service Executable and
something to do with MsMpEng.exe.

I have tried re-installing Windows Defender but when i did that all those
messages came up again. What should i do??

Default RE: Service Executable

Hi Niaz

Start Task Manager after the scenario you described. Under Task Manager,
select Processes. Do you see entries for MSASCui.exe and MsMpEng.exe? Next
look at Services (Control Panel->Performance and Maintenance->Administrative
Tools->Services). Under Services what STATUS is the service Windows Defender
(Started, Stopped)? What happens when you click the Windows Defender Icon to
show the WD screen? Click the down arrow to the right of the circled ?
(help) and click About Windows Defender. Post the three version numbers.
Goto Add/Remove Programs and click on Windows Defender and click Change.
After the WD Maintenance Wizard starts, click Update Windows Defender and
then do an Install operation. What happens after WD is installed (repaired)?
