I just read all posts regarding the missing WD icon in the system tray . I
have tried all advice and it continues to be missing. If the icon is missing does that indicate that WD is NOT working ?? |

It helps to be specific about the advice tried.
Have you checked tools, Options, and scrolled down, within Windows Defender, to find the setting for the tray icon? If that is set to show always, have you also right-clicked the notification area (system tray) in an empty space, chosen customize notifications, and set the Windows Defender icon to "show always?" -- "Lady Tex" <LadyTex@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:AC481F4E-73ED-4975-A38A-3DB58C0743CC@microsoft.com... >I just read all posts regarding the missing WD icon in the system tray . My Defender tray icon disappeared after I installed Adobe Reader 8. It
seemed to be tangled up in somekind of conflict with the LinkScanner Pro icon and would not show up even after 2 reboots. However, once I disabled the Adobe launcher from running at startup, the Defender icon came back. Users may need to check their other start up programs and removed unneeded ones. Right now, Defender and LinkScanner icons are peacefully coexisting. -- Regards, Paul B. aka "OldRebel" "Bill Sanderson MVP" wrote: > It helps to be specific about the advice tried. > > Have you checked tools, Options, and scrolled down, within Windows Defender, > to find the setting for the tray icon? > > If that is set to show always, have you also right-clicked the notification > area (system tray) in an empty space, chosen customize notifications, and > set the Windows Defender icon to "show always?" > > -- > > "Lady Tex" <LadyTex@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:AC481F4E-73ED-4975-A38A-3DB58C0743CC@microsoft.com... > >I just read all posts regarding the missing WD icon in the system tray . Yes it should still be working. If you would like to reassure yourself.
Select Start>Run and type "services.msc" without the quotes. Scroll down to Windows Defender and under Status it should show `Started`. What happens if you start it manually and then exit. Does it go into the
tray? Have you looked in Event Viewer for any Windows Defender errors? Hi Lady Tex:
Please check your trouble as follows: C:\Program Files\Windows Defender and look for a file that looks like a castle. If you set the cursor ontop, it will show: Description: Windows Defender User Interface File Version: 1.1.1593.0. Created 11/03/2003. Size: 846KB If you don't have the castle file, I will tell how to recreate it in my next post, but if you have the castle file, click it and /or ribht click and select Pin on Start Menu. In one of the previous posts an advice was given to remove startup programs. Never ever remove them, just disable and/or enable as required. Go to
Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Scheduled tasks. In the menu at the top, choose Advanced, View hidden tasks and Notify me of missed tasks. You should see an entry for MP Scheduled Scan. If you right click this entry, and choose to Run it--what happens? Good luck -- "Lady Tex" wrote: > I just read all posts regarding the missing WD icon in the system tray .
