Default Defender blocking web login popups

I recently installed the release version of defender but I am now unable to
access several websites that require a login (by way of a popup login form).
I either get a blank page or the browser times out with a connection failure
message. I do not get any indication from defender that it has blocked
anything. Is it possible to authorise some sites to be allowed to popup
such logins or in some other way to stop defender doing this. thanks

Click (or double click as appropriate) the Windows Defender Icon. After the
WD window appears, click History. Do you see any events/times that correlate
to the pop-ups?

Also, turn off real time protection and see what happens with the pop-ups.

No luck in eaither case. Disabling real time protection or even closing
defender makes no difference. Nor does teh history disclose any clues. I
guess it is not defender but something closer to the browsers. The same
fault occurs in Firefox and IE7. The access works OK on work PC which does
not have defender. I am now really lost for ideas, perhap uninstall IE7 and
reinstall? Delete add ons and cookies?

Check to make sure Popups are not being blocked, either by IE7 or another
Security application. Do you have McAfee, Norton, AVG, ... ?

NewScience makes a good point. Sometimes your anti-virus/firewall software
has a pop-up blocker. I wouldn't react so quickly as to uninstall IE7
because you are having the same problem with Firefox. Toolbars have pop-up
blockers also. Try the following site to see if you have pop-up blocking
turned on:

http://edit.companion.yahoo.com/con..._page?.p=pubtry

I do appreciate the help very much. The popup test sees the popup stopped by
the IE popup stopper. However for my problem there is no message that a
popup has been blocked and turning off the IE7 popup block does not allow the
log in to appear. The login should appear from this URL
http://www.eset.com/download/balanc...st/ndntenst.exe
on my work machine a username/password screen pops up happily. But not on
the machines I have at home. I have reset IE to install condition, tried to
delete any cookie taht might relate to accessing this site all to no avail.
i am now out of ideas.

I tried your link and a login window appears whether pop-up blocking is on or
off. Some pop-up blockers have to let the pop-up through if a request is
made to open a new window. So I don't believe the problem is the pop-up
blocker.

You still haven't mentioned if you have any Security app installed (McAfee,
AVG, Norton, ....).
The reason I mentioned this is because if, for example, you have McAfee
Provacy installed and accidently told it to always blocked that sites
cookies (this is totally separate from IE), then your web-site page will not
display.

Do you have any thing installed?
