Windows XP and Service Pack 2

I have Windows XP Home Edition and since Service Pack 2 was first launched I
have tried several times to download SP2. I have been successful in
downloading it but as soon as I do, I am not able to reply or to forward any
of my emails. I, therfore, have had to remove SP2. I am trying to upgrade
my OS to Vista, but in order to do so, I have to download SP2. Has anyone
experienced this problem and does anyone have a solution for me.
