Default backup

I'm having trouble using Windows Backup program via WinXP. I cannot
write to my DVD drive. I get a backup utility error that asks me to
ensure the drive is a valid path and that I need to have sufficient
access (I'm the only user with administrator privileges). This happens
even with a blank DVD. Whenever I try to copy a file to the dvd drive,
I receive a "problem copying" error message. I have no problem reading
from the DVD drive, however. Programs run perfectly well.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Don't bother to use Windows backup.
Use the software that came with your DVD burner
and just burn your data directly to the DVD...
that's all there is to it.

If you do not have any software give Nero a try...
(it will come up on a Google search)
they have a free 30 day trial. It should do the trick...
but if it does not work correctly at least it will not cost you anything to
try it

I think my real problem is that I can't write ANYTHING to my DVD drive.

Have you actually got any software that will use the DVD drive? The native
disk burning software within Windows XP will not, for example.....

I have been using the backup utility from WinXP for some time. All of
the sudden, I can't use it anymore.

XP won't burn to DVD and the backup utility won't save directly to CD
either - unless you have third-party software installed.

Why would it just stop working?

Have you tried re-installing your DVD burning application?

XP does not have DVD burning function, you MUST use a third
party program. Also, not all DVD drives are burners, if you
have a DVD-RW drive, it should have come with software.
