Default Windows Blocks Certain Sites

I get the following notice when trying to open certain sites:

'To help protect your security, I E blocked this site from downloading.'

The follow-up explanation states:

'Windows does not recognize this file type.'

Most are widely known sites and should be recognized. Does anybody know of
any information on why this is happening and how to correct it?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Curt
