Hi there,
I have some licensing issues regarding XP Embedded. we sell measuring units that run Xp Embedded. In target designer I placed the PID that my distributor gave me, from there I built the image, installed our application and finally I made an image using disk clone software. On the production end, we simply restore that image to new disks and ship them to customers. on the back of the product we put the stickers provided by our distributor. I'm wondering if every image has the same PID, aren't we doing something illegal, even if we bought the licenses and have the stickers on the back of each unit?? I would also like to make my own label where I would put the same info that is on the stickers. Is this possible?? tks |

Hi Adam
Yes, that's the right way to license XPE. You signed a OEM CLA Agreement befor you got the license stickers (COAs), so you are an embedded OEM. All Embedded OEMs are allowed to clone easely the images so that every system has the same PID. The original Label from Microsoft must be attached to the system. It can be also attached inside the device. It must be only accessible. (See CLA for details) There is no advantage to make own labels. There is only a serial number, base stock number and Product titel on the label. (PID is comming with a flyer in the license envelope) Don't give this numer out! it is assignet to your OEM number! -- Martin Grossen, eMVP AVNET EMG Silica Franchise Manager Microsoft Embedded Europe Your competent partner for Microsoft Embedded licencing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "adam" <adam@discussions.microsoft.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:E110F69A-3A53-45B8-8EA8-CDA2D1A25452@microsoft.com... > Hi there, > > I have some licensing issues regarding XP Embedded. we sell measuring > units > that run Xp Embedded. Hi, Martin
Thanks for the insights, but when you say " Don't give this numer out! it is assignet to your OEM number!" I find it strange because this number is on the WERUNTIME.ini file!!! so every person has access to it. is it like this or am I doing something wrong?? tks, Adam |

Hi Adam
Yes, of course somebody can extract the PID out of your system (wruntime.ini), but what i said was don't give the PID out (without HW). (To serialz.com or other internet cracking sites...) :-) -- Martin Grossen, eMVP AVNET EMG Silica Franchise Manager Microsoft Embedded Europe Your competent partner for Microsoft Embedded licencing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "adam" <adam@discussions.microsoft.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:C5DD6849-C410-450D-B93A-B022DDBE0189@microsoft.com... > Hi, Martin > > Thanks for the insights, but when you say " Don't give this numer out! it > is > assignet to your OEM number!" It just seems odd to me that MS puts this kind of info available on the wruntime.ini file! Every client of ours has access to our PID... Adam |
