Starting an application on bootup

I am running Windows XP Embedded, and I would like to know how to startup a
custom program when the computer is powered on. I am aware of placing the
executable in the 'startup' directory, but that executes the software only
after logon.

Any help would be greatly apperciated.

Do you want to application to be the Shell? there is an article about
creating a custom shell:

or do you want a standard shelll like explorer and have the application to
start each time? There is a RUN registry setting that you can setup.
