When I go to microsofts site to download setup disc program file to create
the 6 floppies it tells me the program is to big to copy to the floppies. What do I have to do to copy these to floppy discs like it says so I can fix my computer? I need these because setup does not recognize my cd-rom |

You download the package from Microsoft to your hard drive then you
execute (double click) the file and it will create the 6 necessary diskettes. Why doesn't setup recognize your cd-rom? That is rather unusual in this day and age, did you go in the computer BIOS and set the boot order so that the pc boots to cd-rom before the hard disk? I had a power outage at my home which caused a computer problem even though
my computer is supposidly surge static and whatever else protected i reinstalled windows, did repair install but did not have any cdrom or ethernet after the repair install so I thaught maybe it was a bad install so I tried to install again to see if the problem would be fixed and now it comes up during install that it cannot continue because missing file "asms" which has to do with the cd-rom. If you read microsofts article on this it says to do a regestry edit but I thaught that installing from the floppies woulb be easier. I have a lot of stuff on this hard drive that Iam trying to retreave including widows settings. If I can get windows to run and retreave my stuff I will just do a clean install after. Is ther anything easier, what do you think? Try it with the floppies or mount the hard disk in another computer and
copy the files off your disk. If you can't repair install because of registry errors you can do a parallel installation and salvage your files then format the partition and cleanly install. For a parallel installation do the installation as normal without formating but when asked to select a location for the installation tell it to install in a different folder, like WinRepair, instead of the default Windows folder, you will then have two installation of Windows on the same partition. This is for emergency use only, to salvage your files. Don't use a parallel installation for a permanent working setup of Windows.
