Default Where to get XP Pro?

I'd like to buy a full retail version of XP Pro. Where can I get one? I'm
afraid of ebay for that. (I won't be wanting to go to Vista for some time).
I have an OEM Home disk (which the vendor told me was "retail"); and three
OEM setups. I want the full retail version, thank you.

Is there any chance that a full retail version of XP Pro would include the
updates through SP 2, at least?

Thank you for your advice.

The retail versions *should* contain SP2 - and the box should state that
clearly.
You can get them from just about any retail store.

Computer stores (big or small) are likely to sell retail copies of Windows
XP.
Assuming (by your posting IP) you are from the US - you could try anyplace
from Best Buy to Walmart...
Circuit City, Staples, etc...

You can expect a full retail version of Windows XP Home Edition (not
upgrade, not OEM) to run you about $145 and up.

You can expect a full retail version of Windows XP Professional Edition (not
upgrade, not OEM) to run you about $195 and up.

At least that is what I am seeing.
If you can get a full retail (not just a retail upgrade) version for less -
and it's legitimate - go for it.

Online - do some shopping through http://pricewatch.com and use well-rated
vendors.

Thanks, Shenan
I didn't realize it was so widely available.
How would an academic version work? Since I'm at a school, I could get
a discount. Would there be any limitations in the future for me, if I
bought an academic version?

Another thing, if you intend installing on the 'old sony laptop' you might
want first to assertain what specs this laptop is first.

I'm concerned that if I buy academic, that later if I need to update or
upgrade, the software won't let me. Is that a valid concern?

Acedemic referes only to the Licence, ie you have to qualify to buy, the
software is identical.
Therefore if you qualify when you buy you can use it as a qualifying app in
any further upgrade

Thank you! I'm on my way to my school bookstore -- quick! before I
graduate!
