Default Importing Movies

Every time I try to import a movie from my Sony Cam Corder the program goes
through a lengthy import (ie 7 min) and as soon as it gets to the end the
Sorry Micoroft has encountered an error and has to close message appears.

Is there an update for Movie Maker?

I have also downloaded to a file and tried importing the file with the same
results, at the end of the import, I get the error message.
I have Windows XP professional and version 5 of Movie Maker
