Default computer goes into sleep mode

my computer recently started going into 'sleep' mode without me asking
it to. Usually a couple of minutes after start up... the general
routine is that a couple of minutes after i have logged in the fan on
the power supply speeds up, seconds later the message 'entering sleep
mode' flashes very briefly on the screen then the power to the whole
thing cuts out.
If i try restarting the computer shortly afterwards then it refuses to
start up (making a sound a bit like an old knackered car on a cold
morning), however, if I leave it for half an hour then try again it
repeats what I wrote above
the comp is an emachines e190 running windows XP - SP2 if that helps
would be v grateful if anyone has any ideas what might be causing this.
cheers
chris

Default Re: computer goes into sleep mode

Hi:

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Screen Saver Tab>Power>Power Schemes
select Always on. Also disable Hibernate.

Let me know how it works.
