virus in windows xp live messenger

please help me. I am at my witts end. I was sent a IM from a co-worker and I
clicked on the link like a dumb butt.. it is a virus. I have deleted all xp
live messenger programs linked or involved..... ran manuel system scan for
malware and virus's.. Nothing shows up to delete or quarantine.. I am still
not able to get rid of this virus.. Can someone please help me.. here is an
example of what comes up in chat randomly. "OMG...have a look at this!!!

Wow, Thank you so very much!! bart simpson ( love that nick) lmao you saved
my job! I work online everyday for an online casino, and your suggestion
cured the problem right off the bat. I had tried three differet virus scans
that i paid for..... so they were good....... I would have never though of
turning off the restore option.... thanks from my heart! You definately made
this girl a Happy Camper again! I love my job and get very nervous when
things aren't correct for that.... Have a Blessed day... Your super in my
baok.! Hope to chat again...( not under these circumstances) lol but maybe
someday... thanks again my new friend..... you gave me faith in people
