Default Video Card/Cable Problem

While on The Sims 2 Pets, my monitor will "freeze". Freeze meaning the
screen/video shuts down; it doesn't seem like the game crashes because I can
still hear the sound, but I can't see anything. Then what looks like an error
box appears and says: Viewmeter. No signal input. PLEASE CHECK VIDEO CABLE.

There is no pattern to this action. Does this mean the video card is old?
Uncapatible?

I have Windows XP PS2.

Have you tried updating the video driver?

I can think of several possible causes for your problem and the resulting
error message.
(The error message is from the display, and is because it has lost input
from the video card.)

The video card may be failing due to a temperature problem, or going to a
mode incompatible with the display.
Some inexpensive LCD displays may exhibit this problem at lower resolutions.
In this case, the display does not recognize the video signal, and may give
the same error as no video signal.

It is possible that the game may be setting a video mode that the card or
driver does not like, and is shutting video down.
A really off the wall cause for this is playback of some recent "copy
protected" DVDs. Seems some of these install software that you are better
off without.
The undesired software may become resident, and cause a conflict with games
or other application software.
It's usually worth the trouble to check for new video card drivers, and the
games website for patches.
