Hi,
Running XP SP2. A few weeks ago, tried to connect a mobile phone to the PC but it eould not connect and the harware wizzard kept trying to look for something on the software disc that wasn't there. Thought it maybe the phone, but now the PC won't connect to a new camera (downloaded the WIA drivers from Canon) and also won't connect to a All-in-1 card reader/writer. Each time it detects new hardware it goes straight into hardware wizzard and there never is anything it can find from disc or downloaded drivers etc. On device manager it quotes error codes 1 and 28. Connects fine to another camera whose software/drivers have been on for years. Any ideas? Cheers. |

Error Code 1... no drivers installed or installed incorrectly
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123/en-us# Error Code 28.... again, driver issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123/en-us# Seems it's still looking for the phone drivers. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Windows Technologies - Printing & Imaging http://www.coribright.com/windows "Andy W" <lightdrizzle@sheephead.com> wrote in message news:87B21B14-782B-4B07-9C34-E58FB667B29A@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > Running XP SP2. Is there a ton of spyware that Ad-Aware can't emove or some virus that AVG can't get hold of? Should I just wipe the PC and re-load? |

Try a System Restore to the point befoe you connected the phone before
formatting. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Windows Technologies - Printing & Imaging http://www.coribright.com/windows "Andy W" <lightdrizzle@sheephead.com> wrote in message news:B2346A96-E38A-4163-9DF6-D572E2CB6CE2@microsoft.com... > Obviously...but do you have any idea of how to remedy this situation? I've done that, back in the beginning of June. The problem is I don't know
when this problem started as I haven't added new hardware for a few years and now I'm trying to add three bits of hardware. Could it be XP drivers as one of the things I'm trying to add is plug n play? One of the things to remember is always do one piece of hardware at once or,
as you've discovered, it makes it really difficult to diagnose exactly which one is causing the problem. With USB devices, it's nearly always the case that the drivers must be installed BEFORE the hardware is connected to the PC. And June is rather a long time for a System Restore point, I'd probably only consider rolling back a week or so. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Windows Technologies - Printing & Imaging http://www.coribright.com/windows "Andy W" <lightdrizzle@sheephead.com> wrote in message news:27401CFB-B499-46AB-9054-0FE5EE7224B4@microsoft.com... > I've done that, back in the beginning of June.
