Default sound problems

Hi guys. im not really too sure what is wron with my pc but could you give me a few reasons why my computers sound woud just turn off by itself? it has bee doing this for a long time. sometimes it happens like 10 times a day sometimes just once. occasionally it turns back on by itself after like half hour or so but usually i have to log off and log in again.
on board sound card. p4 3.0 ghz. if there is any more inf othat is need please tell

Does your PC still think it is playing sound (i.e. you can play an MP3 in media player without an error telling you have no audio device)?.

The first thing I'd try is to swap your speakers with an old pair temporarily to see if it is a loose connection somewhere. I've had this before and it turned out to be a bad connection in the wire, and the movement of my feet under the desk would sometimes cut the speakers off when they moved the wire.

well it doesnt happen anymore ... this was a while back in september i believe. it wasnt the connection cuz i tried that. i dont know if it was drivers or if something got overheated or what cuz it kinda fixed itself ... i lie, jus remembered that i re-installed windows. after that everything worked
