Originally I set up my XP based laptop with me as one user, and my wife as a
second user. I want to delete the two separate users on my laptop, so neither of us will need to log on. How do I go about doing this? Do I need to save any of the data separately? Bob... |

That isn't the way to do it.
![]() XP is a multi-user environment operating system. You must have at least one account to use the OS. There is a built-in administrator account that you both could use, but using this account for day to day access represents a substantial security risk. You could delete one of your current accounts and you both could use the remaining account, if you wish. You would want to transfer all of the important data from the account you will be deleting to the other account, prior to deleting that account. Once this is done, you can use the free utility, TweakUI to set the remaining account to auto login, which would have the effect of the system going directly to the desktop whenever you turn the computer on. After you have configured the user accounts, go to the following website to download TweakUI. Download TweakUI http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...ppowertoys.mspx Once it is installed, open it and go to Logon / Autologon, place a check mark in the box there and enter the password (If you have a password for the account). -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Bob Bowers" <nospambrb@hushmail.com> wrote in message news:%23B2txpU1GHA.1252@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Originally I set up my XP based laptop with me as one user, and my wife as a > second user.
