By blocking Task Manager, the virus keeps you from using this tool to stop it from running - a necessary step for its effective removal. NOTE: If the virus is injected into the environment as a startup item, starting in Safe Mode (as you did) is another approach for blocking virus activity so that any relevant files it uses can be deleted. There are several articles in the MS Knowledge Base about this error message. Perhaps one of them will help: Error message when you try to open Task Manager on a Windows XP-based computer: "Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913623/en-us "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator" error http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555546/en-us "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator" error message http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555480/en-us -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
