Default XP v64 install and hard drive error

I am upgrding from 32bit windows to 64bit windows. I put the disk in and boot
from startup to install the new version of windows. I make it to the part
where i can select to continue and install, do a system restore, or exit
setup. At that point when i click enter to continue to install, the next
message i recive tells me that it could not detect a harddrive plz make sure
it is turn on, powered on, and connected, and that i may need to run some
setup from the manufacturer, refering to the harddrive manufacture i guess...
At this point i am lost. and can't figure out what to do, plz help!

Is your system compatible with the 64bit version?

System requirements for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition:

Can't upgrade from 32 to 64. Clean install required.
The message could mean that you need to load drivers when the F6 prompt
appears during setup. The ones most commonly needed on the newer 64bit
systems are the drivers for the SATA controllers.
