I have a Visioneer 8100 that will not scan.
The lamp carriage went to the end and started making a loud noise (the belt trying to force the carriage). I opened it up and shoved the carriage all the way back. Now it tries to move the carriage a little and the software comes back and says it's locked. I've read previous posts that some people have moved the carriage by hand and it worked again and someone had tried greasing the shaft the carriage runs on. I've tried the pushing method to no avail. Does anyone have any other suggestions? What type of grease should I try? Thanks for any help, Steve |

Or out of position. The type of grease is a white lithium grease. But a light oiling using 3-in-one oil by wiping on with a soft cloth is OK. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |

Thanks CSM1. I really don't know how I finally fixed it, but I tried moving the carriage around a lot, smoothing out the grease. I think it might have been cleaning the photo interuppter or else it was just letting it cycle by itself a few times. The thing had been working fine before it got shipped to me. In the process of process of this the carriage cable got in the way and once I managed to put a hole in the cable from the lid screw into it. After I fixed that things worked. I gave the window a careful cleaning with vinegar and water and I was in business. I'm not positive I won't have the problem again, but for now it's smooth sailing.
