Default RPC server is unavailable

Trying to add network printer after XP Home reload on reformatted disk. I
get errors like "Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service
is not running." and when I try to start the service I get "RPC service is
unavailable". I get the same errors when I try to install the printer, HP
P1100, as a local printer. What's up with this? TIA
Amos

Ron, please note from link above:

RESOLUTION
Contact you system administrator to determine if the print server is
available.

Did you see in my post that I got the error while trying to install the
printer as a local printer? Thanks for trying anyway and BTW, I am the
admin, LOL

Sorry, Amos. I was too hasty and sent you the wrong link. I would suggest
that you uninstall all printers and related software. Then follow THIS link
and see if it helps you. (I'm guessing that it's a little hiccup in the
XP-related part...as opposed to the HP-related part.)
